In regards to the Next Generation Committee:

Dear Sisters and Brothers:

There are many times in your life when you question what and why. After reflecting on my career here at CL&P and moving along the ranks in the local, there were many moments when I wanted to have a voice at the table. The avenue I went through to sit in my seat today wasn't laid out for me, and the struggles some of us went through aren't for everyone.

Thinking about the future, mainly your future, I find there is a need for new opportunities that could progress our union and its members. I discussed this with the International Leaders, and I am proud to announce the creation of a new Local 420 Committee. It will be called the 420 Next Generation Committee, and my vision for this group is to have members of any classification get more involved and develop a space where voices can be heard. I would like for younger members to participate in the union and to start thinking about their future as well as their brothers and sisters. Topics such as labor laws, learning about our affiliations, and our vision are some of the things I would like members to learn and discuss. They may also sponsor events to get more members involved, such as bowling nights, softball tournaments, etc. The committee could further discuss these events.

This is the first-ever approach, and no current officer has ever been given an avenue like this. The requirements to be on the committee members will be under the age of 36. Once a committee is formed, they will vote on their chairman, vice-chairman, and recording secretary. If interested in joining, call the office and leave a message.

Remember, you are the union. It is your future, and now is the time to get involved.
